And Puppy Makes Three...

Dear Kamyron,

Can you recommend a medium sized, non shedding working dog?

Sure, but define your idea of “working”…for me, working means birddog, pointers, flush dogs, etc for hunting, but huskies that are sled dogs are also considered working. You may be actually looking for what is considered more of a “sporting” class dog. Also, is this dog strictly a worker as a source of revenue, or going to be considered a family pet?  Do you want a mixed breed or AKC pure bred? Will the dog be used for breeding litters? Do you have a preference between male and female? Will this pup be kept in an apartment or in a house with a yard?
LOL! Wow! I just want to run and hike with it. I’m not planning on pulling any sled, and if I were, I’d do it myself for the exercise… Don’t care about pure or mixed. Read up on a boxadore which sounds pretty cool. Closing on a townhouse in a week so thinking about it. Want a non barking, friendly, non shedding one…just like my women

Hmmmm…Ok, and how’s that working out for you??? You, my friend, appear to have much deeper seated issues, but, at the moment, I’ll stay “on point” with the dog selection for you. Although you’ve just given an entirely new meaning to the term “man’s best friend"!

Back to your inquiry…I know it seems like I’m throwing a lot of questions at you, things that you obviously hadn’t considered, but herein lies the point. Acquiring a dog IS A BIG THING….they are not disposable, and should you decide to bring one into your family, it must be with the awareness and acceptance that, with it comes a whole slew of responsibilities, time constraints, financial factors, etc, not to mention that a dog is a living creature and you are signing on with the conviction that you will provide the best quality of life for this companion for the next 10+ yrs, just as you shall discover that he/she will do the same for you many times over…..

Now back to your original question…..I did a little research on Boxadores (a mix of Boxer and Lab) and you are correct…One would probably be a good match for you, although you had stated you wanted a “medium” sized dog (which, for all intents and purposes, is considered 25-50 lbs…Boxadors will average 60 lbs +). Here’s a link where you can view several Boxador variations along with testimonials from their owners http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/boxador.htm
Besides that, I’d suggest you take a look at a Native American Indian
Dog http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/nativeamericanindiandog.htm   and a Flat-coated Retriever
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/flatcoatedretriever.htm  I think either would make a great jogging companion!

And when you’re ready to adopt, please be sure to check out
